IDEA: Kids Present Gift Tags 2010 – Raffle Style!

by PixieThisBlogger on December 27, 2010

in Scrapbooking

I was wrapping presents this morning and had to share something I came up with this year. I don’t know about you, but I dread wrapping presents and placing them under the tree, because the kids automatically pick up the presents tagged for them and shake and peek and wonder…

2010 Calluna Events recap – best of the best photos {part 1}

by PixieThisBlogger on December 23, 2010

in Wedding Ideas

It’s that time again for our annual posting of the best wedding photographs of the year. In what is becoming one of our favorite traditions, we took the opportunity to look through images from our 2010 weddings and selected some of our favorite photographs of the year. Not only does this tradition allow us to look through our weddings and reminisce about all the fun we had, it allows us to be truly humbled and gracious for the opportunities we have all year long.

And it is with that spirit we want to say an enormous thank you; not only the brides & grooms showcased below, as well as the super talented wedding photographers who captured them, but to ALL the Colorado wedding vendors we had the opportunity to work with this year! YOU – our clients and vendors make what we do a joy – you make us look good!

We worked with some of our favorite clients this year – clients who became friends, who we want to stay in touch with and hear their wonderful news. We are grateful to be surrounded by lovely couples who allow us to help them plan their wedding.

Happiest of holidays from Calluna Events! From our team to your family, we wish you and yours much love, happiness and best wishes for 2011!

Stay tuned for parts 2 & 3….

New York Times 10 Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2010

by PixieThisBlogger on November 28, 2010

in Crafts

This month The New York Times released it’s “10 Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2010” review. The review has been released annually for more than 50 years, and as a lover of illustration, it’s one of my favorite things to read. I am amazed by the ability illustrators have to translate a story line into whimsical images via a multitude of mediums. I hope you find as much enjoyment in browsing the winners as I did:

Although they are all beautiful, my absolute favorite winner of this year’s bunch is Erin E. Stead, the artist behind the intricate illustrations housed in her husband’s children’s book, A Sick Day for Amos McGee. We’re lucky enough to gain insight into Erin’s craft, as she uses a combination of printmaking and sketching in each illustration. Below is the process she used to create the beautiful image on the book’s cover.

Erin begins with a basic sketch.
