Halloween is just around the corner! If you’re anything like me, you’ve been dreaming up all sorts of fun ideas for the holiday, only to wait until the very last minute to take action. Have no fear, we have tons of easy ideas for every part of your Halloween celebration!
You’re sure to find something that suits in these no-sew costumes-
1 These collage masks are hilarious! This could be such a fun party activity- with a prize for the most bizarre?
2 All you need for these wizard and witch hats is colored paper, ribbon and embellishments.
3 You could be a very chic Medusa with some small rubber snakes.
4 I recognize those hula skirts- they used to be mops! And how easy to make “flower” leis accessories- stick-on bows!
5 This is a good look for kids and adults.
6 Bzzzzzz. Does anyone hear bumble bees?
7 Such a cool hat- I think I’d wear this year-round.
8 Can you believe that these elegant ruffles are just coffee filters?
9 And bubble wrap makes an ethereal jellyfish.
10 Too cute!
11 This costume is probably the most inexpensive- all you need is …garbage bags!
12 I know I have a couple half-broken umbrellas around the house- they’d be much better off as bat wings!
13 This look is fun and sophisticated- I can picture it on a designer runway.
These spirited decorations are quick and inexpensive-
1 Weigh these helium “jack-o-lanterns” down by tying them to bags of candy.
2
3
4 These are real pumpkins- made glam with a coat of glitter.
5
6 A roll of crepe streamers can go a long way.
7 What appears to be an elegant centerpiece, is actually crawling with roaches!
8 Eek! A mouse!
and don’t forget our dozens of pumpkin templates!

I had SO much fun developing the costumes for this year’s Halloween Special Issue. You’ve seen Martha’s “Motha” costume in action, but have you seen the other six B-Movie themed costumes that accompany her? Flip through the pages of the special issue and you’ll find some classic camp characters reinvented with basic supplies found at hardware stores, pharmacies, and party suppliers. Take a look behind the scenes of the “B-Movie Blowout”-
1 Our Tween Wolf model, getting ready to bare his fangs. His backdrop pictured a foggy full moon.
2 Tween wolf and his sister.
3 The Vanishing Man getting all dolled up.
4
5 It was hard for Vanishing Man to see with all that gauze, so we had to help him with the martini.
6 Little Miss Monstrous getting her makeup done by the talented Clelia Bergonzoli.
7
8
9 Everyone pitches in to get her camera ready.
10
11
12 A final touch of red lipstick and she’s ready!
13
14 Stephen Johnson, an MSL Art Director, and I getting ready for Galaxy Guy and Gal debut.
15 A final mist of the silver glitter spray.
16 Stephen getting some fake eyelashes.
17 Documenting Tween Wolf’s makeup.
18
19 Steph (a fellow photobooks editor) trying on her Lagoon Lady costume.
20 Steph, with her hair in an amazing up-do resembling a fin, waits patiently to get her makeup done. Our amazing photographer, Henry Leutwyler, looks on.
21 A piece of fishnet stocking was used to stencil scales on Steph’s face.
22
23
24 Marcie secures Steph’s rubber glove collar.
25
26
27
Here are some of my favorite outtakes from the shoot-
1 Little Miss Monstrous really got into character!
2
3
4
5 Baxter the dog came along with the photo team for this shoot.
6
7 Stephen warms up while I’m finishing my transformation to Galaxy Gal.
8
9 Wardrobe malfunction! Stephen took a lunge we heard his spacesuit tear.
10
11
12 A little tape on that suit and we’re back in action!
13 Lagoon Lady!
14 Look at those contacts glow!
15 She’s loving it!
16 Having the time of her life!
17 And… she’s over it- get me outta this swamp!
